Background
Cassie Newman is a PhD candidate based at the University of Wollongong. After completing a Bachelor degree, majoring in geospatial science and marine biology, she went on to complete a Masters degree in geospatial science where she used different tools to capture temporal changes in coastlines. Since then, Cassie has been working for the Otago Regional Council in the flood and river space doing GIS and flood modelling. To combine her passion for how water interacts with our environment and using GIS, for her PhD project Cassie will use remote sensing and hydrological mapping to determine water availability for nonvascular plants in Antarctica. Cassie is from New Zealand and has a great love for the outdoors.
