Background

Daniela is a PhD candidate within the Paleoclimate and Environment Research Laboratory, Environmental Futures, School of Earth, Atmosphere and Life Sciences, UOW, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Master’s degree in Marine Science and Management.

She is dedicated to researching the effects of human activities on marine environments, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable marine ecosystems. Her work is focused on providing a baseline of microplastic, metal, and metalloid contamination in marine sediments to better understand the threats they pose to marine communities and ecosystem health over time.

Through her research, Daniela aims to highlight the urgency for sustainable conservation and management practices as well as inform effective policy intervention and strategies to minimise compounding anthropogenic stressors to ecosystems particularly impacted by climate change.
