Background

Lawrence’s research aims to understand the primary controls on the stability of the Vanderford Glacier in East Antarctica, and the potential vulnerability of this region to future climate change. He uses ice sheet models to better understand key physical processes and conduct idealised experiments to assess how the Vanderford Glacier may change in the future.

Following his MSc work at the University of British Columbia, Canada, Lawrence worked as an environmental scientist for 7 years before returning to academia to complete his PhD at Monash University in Melbourne.

“Antarctica is such a unique environment, critical to the Earth’s climate system – with so many unanswered questions, we need to do everything we can to protect it!”
