Background

Sam is a PhD student at La Trobe University supervised by Professor Melodie McGeoch, Dr Pete Green, and Dr Justine Shaw. His project aims to understand and predict the impact of climate change on the vascular flora of the subantarctic islands. The main focus of his work is on plant functional traits in the subantarctic and how they can help to inform predictions of future changes and identify vulnerable species. The outcomes of this research will hopefully contribute to the development of climate-smart management policies in the subantarctic region.

Sam is passionate about protecting the few small but unique terrestrial ecosystems we have scattered across the Southern Ocean and believes that these islands can stand as exemplars of successful conservation.
