Background
Tirthankar is a PhD student jointly supervised by Prof. Andrew Mackintosh and Dr Felicity McCormack, studying glacier dynamics in the Himalayas, with a focus on how subglacial hydrology influences glacier flow and response to climate change. By combining satellite observations with numerical models, my work reconstructs past glacier behaviour and predicts future changes. As part of SAEF, I aim to bring insights from the rapidly changing Himalayan region to advance global understanding of ice dynamics and glacier-climate interaction. This cross-regional perspective will contribute to the development of more robust, transferable models, enhancing our ability to predict the future of polar environments like Antarctica in a warming world.
