With gratitude, SAEF recognises Chris Burns’s contributions and proudly acknowledges them among our valued alumni.
Chris Burns is a PhD candidate from The University of Wollongong. His thesis aimed to identify a machine-learning algorithm capable of generalising in relation to mapping coral reef habitats and seagrass meadows. His results indicated an algorithm known as U-Net showed signs of generalisation in relation to seagrass, reef habitat, and live coral. This provides a baseline algorithm for large scale marine habitat mapping.
