Eliza previously worked as a nuclear scientist with the environmental group at ANSTO, where she researched isotopic fingerprints in Antarctic lakes. Although monitoring has occurred since the late 1970s, datasets remain sparse particularly those using isotopic tracers. Elisa is undertaking a PhD with ANSTO and UOW to develop spatial and temporal trends in trace element isotopic signatures in these lakes. The project will create the first comprehensive region-wide survey using a consistent approach to better understand environmental processes, their drivers, and their implications under a changing climate.
Eliza completed a Bachelor of Chemistry in 2022 at University of Technology Sydney. Her Honours project focused on environmental contamination of PCBs and heavy and toxic metals.
“Without understanding Antarctica we can’t protect it from climate change, I want to research and understand its environment so we can protect and mitigate the effects.”
