Saanvi Deobhankar
Saanvi is a first year PhD student at Monash University supervised by Dr Ariaan Purich and Professor Julie Arblaster. She is interested in understanding how changes in Antarctic sea ice influences climate variability across Australia and the broader tropics.
Her work will focus on examining how variations in sea ice extent affect rainfall and temperature, as well as large-scale climate modes such as SAM and ENSO. This will be achieved by running coupled simulations with ACCESS-ESM1.6 and comparing her findings with results from other CMIP6 models to provide robust and consistent conclusions.
As part of SAEF, Saanvi aims to actively contribute to understanding how Antarctica influences extreme weather events in Australia to facilitate in improving and predicting future climate extremes in the coming centuries.
