Background

Naomi Monk is a PhD student at Monash University with a background in alpine conservation and an interest in the invertebrate biodiversity of cold climates, including the Antarctic region. Naomi’s research aims to understand and predict changes in the terrestrial biodiversity across the Southern Ocean islands by focusing on weevils, a diverse group of beetles found within the region. This work will examine weevil traits using collections, long-term data, and new material. The outcomes of this research will contribute to furthering our understanding of weevil diversity across the Southern Ocean islands and help to inform decision making for the region.

“The Antarctic region has remarkable biodiversity that we risk losing if we fail to understand and conserve it.”
